Charter for Compassion - Karen ArmstrongPosted by: Bruce in Inspiration, SolarEnurgy team
CHARTER FOR COMPASSION TRAILER from TED Prize on Vimeo. Weeks from the Charter for Compassion launch, Karen Armstrong looks at religion’s role in the 21st century: Will its dogmas divide us? Or will it unite us for common good? She reviews the catalysts that can drive the world’s faiths to rediscover the Golden Rule. She asks the TED community to help her build a Charter for Compassion — to help restore the Golden Rule as the central global religious do” Peace, Bruce Religious thinker Karen Armstrong has written more than 20 books on faith and the major religions, studying what Islam, Judaism and Christianity have in common, and how our faiths shaped world history and drive current events. Armstrong’s TED Prize wish asks us to help her assemble a Council on Compassion, where religious leaders can work together for peace. “I say that religion isn’t about believing things. It’s ethical alchemy. It’s about behaving in a way that changes you, that gives you intimations of holiness and sacredness.” "> “Every religion emphasizes human improvement, love, respect for others, sharing other people’s suffering. On these lines every religion had more or less the same viewpoint and the same goal.” Religious groups, as well as non-theistic ethical systems, differ greatly in their beliefs and practices. There is, however, a common thread that runs through them all. Each of these systems of belief has some example of the Ethic of Reciprocity in their teachings. The most common version of this is known as: The Golden Rule Copyright Humanity Healing 15 August 2008 FAIR USE NOTICE

“The Shift” the moviePosted by: Bruce in Earth Changes, General, Inspiration, News, Renewable Energy, Solar EnergyAre you feeling the shift? Have you noticed it is happening everywhere and in everyone? A movie made by a movement… here is the trailer for “The Shift” "> This very interesting talk on TED.com, by Daniel Goleman, author of Emotional Intelligence, asks why we aren’t more compassionate more of the time. Sharing the results of psychological experiments (and the story of the Santa Cruz Strangler), he explains how we are all born with the capacity for empathy — but we sometimes choose to ignore it. If you liked the “Story of Stuff” you will find he also talks about how consumerism also plays a part in our emotional intelligence. Tags: Compassion, Good Samaritans, TED |
