At TEDIndia, Pranav Mistry demos several tools that help the physical world interact with the world of data — including a deep look at his SixthSense device and a new, paradigm-shifting paper “laptop.” In an onstage Q&A, Mistry says he’ll open-source the software behind SixthSense, to open its possibilities to all.

Howdy friends,

I would like to draw your attention to a term called “Open-source.” Most of you that are familiar with the term think of the collaboration and cooperation that is part of software development. It has been a MAJOR player in the development of our current software and hardware computer technologies. It has now evolved into much, much more than that. We have shifted into a time where “people” (collective masses) now have more power than the giant corporations… through collaboration and synergies.

What I would like to submit to you, is that an amazing new company has utilized this concept of “Open-source” to bring about a paradigm SHIFT in the energy industry through decentralized cooperation and collaboration. We are talking about a group of passionate and caring individuals that are dedicated to a mission much greater than themselves. Why? Is it the money? Is it the fame? ……… or is it to be part of something that has the POTENTIAL to SHIFT our experience of business as usual on it’s head. Could it be a worth the risk of time and personal energy to contribute toward part of the solution for the biggest challenge of our time? Both economically and environmentally?

We are on an adventure… if it were easy, it would not be called an adventure. If there were no challenges there would be no learning. We are breaking ground with not only a business that has not been done before… but even more importantly, with a collective energy of people that will rival the likes of Google, Wikipedia, and SETI. Citizenre will become not only a household name… it will become “THE” company to emulate in the new “green” age. Life is not an accident. Everything has it’s ultimate purpose and each and everyone of us has a part to play.

I am very happy to be part of this process and find the process a joy. Sure results are what counts in the end… but the end is not all it is cracked up to be…. :) Smelling the roses along the way, while not being to worried about a few thorns, makes for a happy solar traveler… :)

I would like to share three videos with you to illustrate these points… hope you enjoy them and find inspiration in them.

This new positive & inspirational video by Al Gore at the TED conference is worth sharing with everyone you know… regardless of their political persuasion or position on the environment. Al has really found his voice and is in the “zone” on this one. The reality is that we are faced with an ENERGY crisis… and the tipping point for solving that crisis will be solving the crisis in our democracy’s political will. We currenty have a disconnect with our government… the majority of the people feel differently than the actions taken by our representatives.

“Politicians are a lot like diapers…. they should be changed frequently, and for the same reasons.” -Robin Williams

In promoting unified solutions the challenge is not about fear, or gloom & doom… it is an opportunity to be greater that we thought possible… together. Where the rewards from a common cause for our children and our planet becomes greater than the distractions of our instant gratification. The short sighted response of most of our political decision makers to fight against carbon tax, oil industry subsidies, oil price gouging, renewable energy tax credits and renewable energy industry stimulus, subsidies, research & development. And then tout “Clean Coal” as a solution? talk about an oxy moron…

Clean Coal is a bit like a porous condom… at least the intention was there.
-Robin Williams

I have a very positive outlook on the future. History show us that when Americans are faced with a deep challenge, they rally and triumph, against all odds. The rubber has hit the road for sure, and I for one, am up for it. Most importantly I plan to have fun along this green path!

This time in history we are looking for a generation of heros… as Al so rightly pointed out.

Well…. HELLO… Hero generation! We have arrived and will thrive!
This will make the 60’s look like a warm up practice.. :)
You are now officially the: Energy Generation’s ECO Heros!

In-joy,
Bruce

Here are some of my favorite highlights from Al’s new slide show…

“HOW DARE WE BE OPTIMISTIC

In order to solve the climate crisis we have to solve the democracy crisis.

How many generations in all of human history have had the opportunity…
to rise to a challenge that is worthy of our best efforts,
that has a challenge that can pull from us,
more than we knew we could do.

I think we should approach this challenge with a
sense of profound joy and gratitude that we are the generation
about which 1000 years from now…
philharmonic orchestras, and poets and singers will celebrate by saying…
-They were the ones that found it within themselves to solve this crisis
and lay the basis for a bright and optimistic future.

Let’s do that.”
—-

“From an old African proverb…
If you want to go quickly… go alone
If you want to go far… go together

Well… we have to go far… quickly!
so we have to have a change in consciousness,
a change in commitment,
a new sense of urgency,
a new appreciation for the privilege we have of undertaking this challenge”

This talk is well worth spreading….

Neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor had an opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: One morning, she realized she was having a massive stroke. As it happened — as she felt her brain functions slip away one by one, speech, movement, understanding — she studied and remembered every moment. This is a powerful story about how our brains define us and connect us to the world and to one another.

Here is Jill Bolte: My stroke of insight:

‘So who are we? We are the life force power of the universe, with manual dexterity and two cognitive minds. And we have the power to choose, moment by moment, who and how we want to be in the world. Right here right now, I can step into the consciousness of my right hemisphere where we are — I am — the life force power of the universe, and the life force power of the 50 trillion beautiful molecular geniuses that make up my form. At one with all that is. Or I can choose to step into the consciousness of my left hemisphere. where I become a single individual, a solid, separate from the flow, separate from you. I am Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, intellectual, neuroanatomist. These are the “we” inside of me.
Which would you choose? Which do you choose? And when? I believe that the more time we spend choosing to run the deep inner peace circuitry of our right hemispheres, the more peace we will project into the world and the more peaceful our planet will be. And I thought that was an idea worth spreading.’ - Jill Bolte

Bruce

This very interesting talk on TED.com, by Daniel Goleman, author of Emotional Intelligence, asks why we aren’t more compassionate more of the time. Sharing the results of psychological experiments (and the story of the Santa Cruz Strangler), he explains how we are all born with the capacity for empathy — but we sometimes choose to ignore it. If you liked the “Story of Stuff” you will find he also talks about how consumerism also plays a part in our emotional intelligence.
